Wang Yafan of China defeated Anna Karolina Schmiedlova of Slovakia 6-0, 3-6, 6-4 in the women's singles first-round match at the Wimbledon Championships at the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club in London on Monday.

Monday's victory matched Wang Yafan's best record at the tournament as she made the second round in 2019. She will face the No. 12 seed, Madison Keys of the U.S., in her next match.

Zhu Lin of China beat Irina-Camelia Begu of Romania 6-0, 6-4 in the first round after taking the first eight games. She advanced to the second-round match at Wimbledon for the second time in her career after doing so in 2021. Zhu will play the tournament's No. 25 seed, Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova of Russia, next.

The other five female Chinese players who participated in Monday's matches lost to their opponents. The eighth-seeded Zheng Qinwen was upset by qualifier Lulu Sun of New Zealand 6-4, 2-6, 4-6.

Wang Xiyu lost to Donna Vekic of Croatia 6-3, 3-6, 4-6. Zhang Shuai was beaten by No. 14 seed, Daria Kasatkina of Russia, 3-6, 0-6. Yuan Yue was eliminated by Arantxa Rus of the Netherlands 2-6, 3-6. Wang Qiang lost to nineteenth-seeded Emma Navarro of the U.S. 0-6, 2-6.

Wang Xinyu will play Viktoriya Tomova of Bulgaria in the first-round match on Tuesday. Bai Zhuoxuan will face Harriet Dart of Great Britain.
