China's Zhang Zhizhen defeated Maxime Janvier of France 7-6(4), 6-3, 6-2 in the men's singles first-round match at Wimbledon on Monday, securing his first win at the tournament.

Monday's victory also made Zhang the first male player from the Chinese mainland to go through the singles first round in each of the four Grand Slams; Australian Open, French Open, Wimbledon and U.S. Open.

The 32nd seed will face German Jan-Lennard Struff in the second round.

Earlier on Monday, another PRC player Shuang Juncheng beat Chile's Cristian Garin 7-5, 6-4, 6-4 in the first round, becoming the first male player from the Chinese mainland to pocket a win in the singles event at the Wimbledon Championships.

Shang's next opponent will be 10th-seeded Grigor Dimitrov of Bulgaria.

The reigning champion Carlos Alcaraz of Spain knocked out Mark Lajal of Estonia 7-6(3), 7-5, 6-2 in the first round. The No. 1 seed, Jannik Sinner of Italy, beat Yannick Hanfmann of Germany in his first match.
