A Chinese mainland spokesperson on Wednesday said a fishing boat from the Taiwan region has been seized by the coast guard of Fujian Province for suspected illegal operations.
Chen Binhua, a spokesperson for the State Council Taiwan Affairs Office, said the boat, caught recently in waters near the city of Quanzhou, violated the summer fishing ban and engaged in prohibited trawling operations.
He said the seizure was routine law enforcement aimed at maintaining the fishing order, preserving marine fishery resources and protecting the environment.
Relevant authorities will deal with the case in accordance with the law, the spokesperson said.
