The European Union plans to impose provisional tariffs of 17.4 percent to 38.1 percent on electric vehicles from China for four months starting on July 4. In response, China has made it clear that it will take all necessary measures to safeguard its legitimate rights and interests.
CGTN's Bi Ran talked to Tu Xinquan, dean of the China Institute for World Trade Organization (WTO) Studies at the University of International Business and Economics, on WTO rules and negotiations. Tu said that preliminary rulings generally do not attract much attention, but this time many people feel that once the result is out on July 4, it will be a done deal. "In reality, this is not the case. According to the investigation procedures, the vast majority of countries follow a process of two stages: preliminary and final rulings. There are still many legal processes in between. During this investigation process, on one hand, we can actively respond to the investigation. On the other hand, the government and enterprises should actively negotiate with the EU," he added.
