Indian authorities confirmed on July 2 that a religious gathering, during which a stampede broke out and killed at least 130 people, exceeded the allowed attendance limit by hosting more than 80,000 people. Many others were injured during the stampede in Hathras, a city in the northern Indian state of Uttar Pradesh, around 241 kilometers southeast of New Delhi.
