Chinese President Xi Jinping and Tajik President Emomali Rahmon held small-group talks in Dushanbe, Tajikistan, on Friday.

Xi pointed out that the relationship between the two countries is characterized by profound historical roots, a solid political foundation, rich cooperation connotations and broad popular support.

Under joint efforts, political mutual trust between China and Tajikistan has continued to deepen, he said, adding that Belt and Road cooperation has yielded fruitful results, with a series of major projects making progress, which has effectively promoted the common development of the two countries.

Xi said China and Tajikistan decided to build a community with a shared future featuring everlasting friendship, solidarity and mutual benefit last year.

"Today, we will announce the elevation of ties to a comprehensive strategic partnership in the new era, and make new plans and arrangements for mutually beneficial cooperation between the two countries in various fields," he said.
