China's Wang Xinyu defeated fifth-seed Jessica Pegula of the U.S. 6-4, 6(7)-7(9), 6-1 in the women's singles second-round at Wimbledon on Thursday.
It was Wang's first victory over Top-10 player and enabled her to advance to the third round at SW19 for the first time. She will face the UK's Harriet Dart next.
Wang compatriot Wang Yafan lost to twelfth-seeded American Madison Keys 2-6, 2-6.
Another two seeded players, Caroline Garcia and Leylah Fernandez were eliminated on Thursday. Garcia lost to Bernarda Pera 6-3, 3-6, 4-6. Fernandez was knocked out by Caroline Wozniacki 3-6, 6-2, 5-7.
Top seed Iga Swiatek continued to progress at the grass-court Grand Slam after beating Petra Martic 6-4, 6-3. Her best record at the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club was making the quarterfinals last year. Swiatek will play Yulia Putintseva of Kazakhstan in the third round.
Putintseva's compatriot Elena Rybakina, defeated Laura Siegemund 6-3, 3-6, 6-4 in the second round. Rybakina, who won her first and only Grand Slam singles title at Wimbledon in 2022, will face Wozniacki next.
