A dike on the Dongting Lake was breached on Friday following failed emergency repair efforts in Tuanzhou Town of central China's Hunan Province, causing flooding in the area. Rescue operations were conducted to protect local communities from flooding and a possible further dike breach. Rocks were dumped at the breach, which was 226 meters wide at noon on Saturday, in preparation to fill the gap. Over 5,700 residents in the affected area were evacuated, and no casualties have been reported, according to the local flood control department. 1,000 tents, 3,200 rollaway beds and blankets, and 5,000 family emergency kits were urgently dispatched to the affected area.
