On Friday afternoon, a severe tornado hit Dongming County in eastern China's Shandong Province, killing five people and injuring 83 others. Preliminary investigations showed that over 2,800 houses were damaged, as well as 4,000 hectares of farmland and 48 power lines. Disaster relief work is ongoing.
Government departments at all provincial, city and county levels took quick action to carry out disaster relief work and organized medical experts to treat the injured. At the same time, teams were dispatched to check each household and to transfer and resettle affected people. They have conducted a comprehensive survey of the damage to residents' houses and infrastructure. Authorities say roads, power, water and communications in the area have been restored.
