Iran's former Health Minister Masoud Pezeshkian won the presidential runoff election, according to Iran's Interior Ministry on Saturday.
"By gaining (the) majority of the votes cast on Friday, Pezeshkian has become Iran's next president," the ministry said.
Pezeshkian got more than 16 million votes, while former chief nuclear negotiator Saeed Jalili received more than 13 million out of about 30 million votes cast, electoral authority spokesperson Mohsen Eslami said, adding that voter turnout stood at 49.8 percent.
The snap election was called after Ebrahim Raisi's death in a helicopter crash in May.
