As of 6 a.m. on Sunday, rescue teams had filled 50 meters of the over 200-meter-long gap in one of the dikes at Dongting Lake in central China's Hunan Province. The breach, which occurred on the afternoon of July 5 in Huarong County, was caused by recent heavy rainfall. CGTN reporter Xu Xinchen observed on July 6 that the repair work continued throughout the night. He was informed that over 3,000 rescue workers had come to help in the efforts. Experts estimate that it will take a week to complete the repairs.
