Jiang Yiting, 19, will participate in shooting's women's skeet event at the upcoming 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris on behalf of China.

It will be Jiang's first appearance at the Olympics, but she's not necessarily a stranger to Olympic-level competition, having served as a training partner for Chinese national team members Wei Meng and Zhang Donglian before the pandemic-delayed Tokyo Olympics in 2021, where Wei secured the bronze medal.

"I was a training partner with the Chinese national team before the Tokyo Olympics," Jiang told the China Media Group (CMG). "I was basically learning from the big brothers and sisters during that time to improve myself."

Training alongside the country's top shooters was a great help for Jiang, who began to make her name known at domestic competitions in the ensuing years. In early 2023, she finished the World Cup trials in first place.

"I gained the most from competing in the final," Jiang said. "For example, I began to understand what I should think of on break, as well as how to change my mindset to perform well in the final."

Jiang was confirmed as a member of the Chinese national team for the Paris Olympics after the International Shooting Sport Federation World Cup in Italy in June. A few years ago, she was a young fan of Chinese Olympians. Now she has joined their ranks.

"I feel proud of myself for being able to compete at the Olympic Games for the first time in my career," Jiang said. "I hope I can reach top-six at the event."
