The 10th Nishan Forum on World Civilizations will be held from July 10 to 11 in Qufu, Jining City, east China's Shandong Province, the birthplace of famous Chinese philosopher Confucius.

First held in September 2010, the Nishan Forum was originally designed as an international platform focused on academic and cultural topics. It was held every two years until its sixth edition in 2020, when the frequency was increased to once a year.

The forum has eventually become one of China's name cards in terms of soft power and public diplomacy, helping spread traditional Chinese culture abroad as well as the idea of building a global community of shared future.

Themed "Traditional Culture and Modern Civilization," this year's forum focuses on the collision of ideas from different dimensions, for instance, civilizational inheritance and innovation in the process of modernization.

According to "Confucian Studies of the Past Decade," a report by Wei Yanhua from the Confucius Research Institute, Confucianism has actively integrated into social life, and the achievements of "two creations" and "two combinations" have been significant in the past decade. The cultural relics of Confucianism have been reactivated and Confucian temples, institutes and classrooms have become the venues for Confucianism to integrate into social life.

Confucianism actively integrated into the education system and deeply influenced social life. As of 2023, there were 563 Confucius institutes and classrooms set up at foreign universities and colleges in 154 countries and regions, according to data from the official Confucius Institute website.

In modern days, the city's Nishan Sacredland, Confucius Museum and Confucius Institute have become the new signature tourism destinations and an important carrier for exchange and mutual learning.

The Confucius Museum in Qufu is the first comprehensive museum to focus on Confucius. The museum opened in 2019 and covers an area of 55,000 square meters. The museum immerses the visitor into the life of Confucius and gives tourists access to the charm of Confucian culture, with multimedia and intelligent mobile terminals. On the first day of the May Day holiday this year, the Confucius Museum attracted close to 10,000 visitors.
