China-Thailand joint laboratory marks decade of marine cooperation

As a key country along the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road, Thailand shares geographical and cultural ties with China, fostering long-term cooperation in the maritime sector.

The China-Thailand Joint Laboratory for Climate and Marine Ecosystems was set up in Phuket in 2013. As the first joint marine research facility, it set out to conduct research into the marine environment and climate change, monitor coral reefs and endangered species, and act as a key cooperation platform and scientific information exchange for the two countries and the wider region.

The China-Thailand Joint Laboratory for Climate and Marine Ecosystem celebrated its 10th anniversary in 2023 in Xiamen, Fujian Province. The Thai representatives reaffirmed their commitment to cooperation and expressed their hope that this milestone would mark the beginning of higher-level and deeper marine cooperation. They also stressed the importance of exploring new areas of growth and working together for a brighter decade ahead.
