China's consumer price index (CPI), a main gauge of inflation, went up 0.2 percent in June from a year earlier, data from the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) showed on Wednesday.

The core CPI, deducting food and energy prices, climbed 0.6 percent, flat with that in May.

On a monthly basis, the CPI inched down 0.2 percent in June due to seasonal factors. The decrease was slightly bigger than the 0.1-percent drop in May.

Meanwhile, PPI dropped 0.8 percent from a year earlier, narrowing from a slide of 1.4 percent the previous month.

The decline is attributed to price fluctuations in international commodities and insufficient market demand for some domestic industrial products, according to NBS statistician Dong Lijuan.

From January to June, the country's CPI rose 0.1 percent compared to the same period last year, while PPI dipped 2.1 percent.
