As a time-honored tradition, the Yao people of south China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region celebrate the Drying Clothes Festival by drying their clothes, making traditional costumes, combing their hair, and taking part in other rituals. During the festival, Yao women lay out their colorful costumes and shoes to dry outside their windows or spread them out on mats in their yards for several hours to disinfect their clothes in the sunlight – and to show off their intricate embroidery work. The Yao believe it's a natural way to get rid of bugs and bacteria and bring good luck. The festival falls on the sixth day of the sixth month of the traditional Chinese calendar.
