In 2018, Xi Jinping, general secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, said during a research trip to the three northeastern provinces that high quality development of manufacturing is indispensable for a modernized nation and the country must stick to the path of self-reliance amid rising unilateralism and protectionism. Since the 19th National Congress of the CPC in 2017, China has rolled out major reforms of vital importance.
