An Israeli air strike has killed at least 90 Palestinians in a humanitarian zone in southern Gaza, a statement from the health authorities in the Gaza Strip said on Saturday. The attack targeted al-Mawasi, where thousands of displaced Palestinians are sheltering, in the west of Khan Younis. About half of the dead were women and children, and another 300 or so Palestinians were wounded. Israel said the strike targeted Hamas military chief Mohammed Deif and senior Hamas commander Rafa Salama. It said the attack was based on "precise intelligence," but Hamas called the Israeli claim false. Jordan and Egypt condemned the air strike, and called for international action to protect Palestinian people.
