China and Russia have launched joint naval exercises in the South China Sea. Vessels taking part in the Joint Sea-2024 drills have assembled in the southern port city of Zhanjiang. Zheng Yibing reports on Sunday's opening.

Navy commanders from both countries said the drills enhance the two navies' ability to jointly respond to maritime security threats and demonstrate their firm determination to jointly safeguard maritime and regional peace and stability.
