The Republican National Convention (RNC) opened on schedule in Milwaukee, two days after a gunman tried to assassinate Donald Trump at a rally in Pennsylvania. RNC delegates voted to make Trump the party's official nominee. The former U.S. president picked Ohio Senator J.D. Vance as his running mate.
