In a dazzling display of nature's power, lightning danced across the Chicago skyline on the night of July 14, following a rare tornado warning for the city. Footage of lightning simultaneously striking the city's tallest buildings was captured on camera. The power of nature continued to be felt across the Midwest as storms spawned multiple tornadoes, tearing through Iowa, Illinois, including Chicago, and Indiana, downing trees and power poles as well as cutting power to more than 460,000 customers and businesses. Nearly 390,000 customers were left without power in northern Illinois alone, according to poweroutage.us.
