The 2024 International Congress of Basic Science brings together outstanding global scholars in mathematics, theoretical physics, and theoretical information and computer science. In an exclusive interview with CGTN's reporter Liu Jiaxin, Hiraku Nakajima, president of the International Mathematics Union and professor at the University of Tokyo, highlighted the distinction between mathematical contests and actual research. He emphasized that success in competitions doesn't always translate directly to research prowess, and urged young mathematicians to explore beyond tests and embrace new challenges.
