A little monk showing off his extraordinary skills with a string of prayer beads swirling around his neck is just one of the scenes where Xiaoyi stick puppetry and Shangdang wooden clapper opera overlap. The two folk art forms from north China's Shanxi Province have both been included in the national intangible cultural heritage list.
