Strange masks, a crown and a sun disk, all made of gold, plus massive amounts of ivory, jade and funerary artifacts were discovered by chance beneath the streets of Chengdu in 2001. They belonged to an incredibly advanced Bronze Age settlement called Jinsha, believed to have been the capital of the ancient Shu Kingdom in what is now Sichuan Province.
