A side meeting on China's trade policy was held in Geneva on Tuesday, ahead of the World Trade Organization's (WTO) ninth trade policy review on China, aiming to help WTO members understand China's economic and trade policies.

Experts and scholars from China and representatives of foreign-funded enterprises in China introduced policies and measures adopted by China, as well as practical experiences to achieve high-quality development and opening-up. 

They exchanged views with over 100 participants from the WTO secretariat, WTO member countries and regions, international organizations and the media.

In response to WTO members' concerns about China's macroeconomy and domestic reform measures, experts analyzed and shared China's macro-economic performance and outlook, elaborated on China's new measures in developing "new quality productive forces," building a unified national market and promoting the development of the private economy.

Trade policy reviews are not only an important way for the WTO to supervise trade policies and enhance the transparency of the policies of its members, but they are also an important platform for enhancing understanding and building trust, which is essential for the effective operation of the WTO, said Li Chenggang, permanent representative of China to the WTO.

This side event is the first time China has held such an event on the eve of the trade policy review. 

Alexander Keck, chief of Global Economic Analysis at WTO, spoke highly of China's positive and open attitude in preparations for the review. 

He acknowledged the event's role in promoting an in-depth understanding of China's economic and trade policies to WTO, increasing trust and dispelling doubts within the organization.

China's ninth policy review is taking place from July 17 to July 19.
