Vietnamese President To Lam has temporarily taken over the duties of general secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) Central Committee Nguyen Phu Trong, who is focusing on his health, Vietnam News Agency reported on Thursday.
President To Lam has been temporarily assigned to preside over the tasks of the CPV Central Committee, the Politburo of the CPV Central Committee and the CPV Secretariat, within the authority and responsibilities stipulated by the Politburo of the CPV Central Committee, while priority is given to Trong's health and medical treatment, who had previously been juggling national affairs while receiving medical care and treatment, Vietnam News Agency reported.
The Politburo of the CPV Central Committee, the CPV Secretariat and high-level leaders have directed professional units and mobilized leading medical professors, physicians and medical experts to prioritize intensive care for Trong, according to Vietnam News Agency.
The Politburo of the CPV Central Committee called for the CPV and the people to continue their absolute trust in the leadership of the Party and the government while strengthening solidarity and unity and building on the country's achievements, Vietnam News Agency said.
They should continue to overcome challenges and complete the goals set by the 13th CPV National Congress, maintaining political stability, protecting the country's independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity, as well as national security, social safety and order, thereby improving socioeconomic development and people's quality of life, Vietnam News Agency reported.
