The Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee on Friday sent condolences to the Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee (CPVCC) and deeply mourned the death of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong.
The CPC and the Chinese people have lost a good comrade, brother and friend, the condolence message read.
The CPC Central Committee noted that Trong is a staunch Marxist and a great leader of the Communist Party of Vietnam and the Vietnamese people who devoted his life to the endeavors of the Party and the state.
Trong made outstanding contributions to the cause of the renovation, opening up and socialist construction of Vietnam, as well as to the development of the world socialist movement, it added.
As a close comrade and friend of the CPC and the Chinese people, Trong committed himself to inheriting and carrying forward the China-Vietnam traditional friendship of "comrades and brothers" and forged a profound friendship with the CPC and Chinese leaders, said the CPC Central Committee.
Comrade Trong, together with General Secretary of the CPC Central Committee Xi Jinping, upgraded bilateral relations to a China-Vietnam community with a shared future that carries strategic significance and vigorously pushed forward the China-Vietnam comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership, it stressed.
The CPC Central Committee said it believes that the Communist Party of Vietnam and the Vietnamese people will turn their grief into strength and constantly make new achievements in the cause of socialist construction.
Noting that China and Vietnam are socialist neighbors linked by mountains and rivers and are a community with a shared future that bears strategic significance, the message also said China always takes Vietnam as a priority in its neighborhood diplomacy and is ready to work with the Vietnamese side to continuously consolidate political mutual trust, strengthen unity and cooperation, and promote the building of a China-Vietnam community with a shared future to the benefit of the two peoples and to contribute to peace and development in the region and the world.
