Visiting Chengdu and not seeing the giant pandas is a bit like going to China and not seeing the Great Wall. There are several places to see pandas around Chengdu, but the closest is the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding, or the Chengdu Panda Base for short. It's around a 30-minute drive from the city center and accessible by subway, and is home to hundreds of giant pandas varying in age from cubs to fully grown adults.
