Rock carvings dating back 2,500 to 3,000 years have been discovered in Heshuo County of northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region on Tuesday. The grassland rock carvings are scattered on a natural stone wall and composed of 71 independent patterns, depicting scenes of hunting, nomadism and rituals. It is the first time such petroglyphs have been discovered in the northern mountain area of Heshuo. The carvings are of great significance to the study of the life, culture and art of the ancient nomads in the Tianshan Mountain range of Xinjiang.
