Global Security Initiative: Global Security Initiative Studies Center established by China Institute of International Studies

One of China's key visions for international relations, the Global Security Initiative, has been strengthened with the inauguration of a dedicated center in Beijing. Officials also released its first report on the initiative's implementation. The report aims to help the world better understand its practical significance in the field of security. Our reporter Cen Ziyuan has the details. 

It has been two years since Chinese President Xi Jinping laid the foundation of the Global Security Initiative. The first report on the progress of implementation of the Initiative was released by the China Institute of International Studies on Thursday.

The Institute is a specialized research organization under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The event also marked the establishment of the Center for Global Security Initiative Studies at the Institute. 

CEN ZIYUAN, Beijing "Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said in his written congratulatory letter that the report will help to understand better the meaning and value of the Initiative, as it stands for public good in the global security arena."

According to the report, the GSI has gained support from over 100 countries, regions and international organizations. Meanwhile, the Initiative, and its core concept, has been written into more than 90 bilateral and multilateral documents exchanged between China and other countries. 

CHEN XIAODONG, Vice Minister, Ministry of Foreign Affairs "The Initiative is based on the reality that all countries have intertwined interests and share weal and woe. It emphasizes that no country can safeguard its security in isolation, and there can be no security based on the insecurity of other countries. Only by working together and with cooperation, can we escape from the historical cycles of war and peace, prosperity and decline, order and chaos."

President Xi said China has been promoting such an Initiative to steer the world towards win-win cooperation and the path of dialogue and partnership, as opposed to confrontation, alliances and zero-sum game.

These are the manifestation of China's ability think deep and present the concept of harmony as a norm to international community."

Vice Minister Chen said the establishment of such an institute has demonstrated China's willingness to promote cooperation and help facilitate research and development around the Initiative.
