This year marks the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Niger. Over the half century, the two countries deepened cooperation in various fields such as trade and cultural exchanges.

China and Niger established formal diplomatic relations on July 20, 1974. They signed a memorandum of understanding for cooperation on the Belt and Road Initiative in 2019.

China has expanded bilateral trade with Niger, with total trade in goods increasing from $318 million in 2014 to $636 million in 2023. Last year, China's exports to Niger stood at $324 million, while its imports from Niger reached $312 million.

The two countries have signed an agreement on cultural and educational cooperation, under which China has provided scholarships to Niger since 1978. In the 2022-2023 academic year, there were 256 students from Niger studying in China, including 103 scholarship students.
