Olympics: China's Zou Jingyuan prepares to defend parallel bars title

Chinese gymnast and reigning Olympic gold medalist Zou Jingyuan will be looking to maintain his position as king of the parallel bars when the Games get underway in Paris.

Zou previously won parallel bars gold in Tokyo as the youngest member of the Chinese men's gymnastics team at the age of 23.

He has gone on to add world championships in both the individual parallel bars and overall team events since 2021.

As he prepares for Paris, Zou says his biggest challenge is himself, and despite fierce competition his textbook-like finishes have set him apart.

China has won four Olympic gold medals in the men's parallel bars and the team is aiming for continued success in the French capital.

Now a veteran gymnast, Zou is seeking to defend his title and lead the team to new heights this summer.

"Treat everyday training like a competition and do your best. Maybe the pressure of competition is more intense, but all we can do is work harder in daily training, and not let external issues define your thoughts." Zou said.

"Every competition is a new challenge, and it's a new start for me after stepping off the podium," he added.
