Rescue operation underway after bridge collapse amid torrential rains in NW China

A highway bridge collapse triggered by torrential rains in northwest China's Shaanxi Province has killed 12 people and left 31 missing, according to local authorities. The bridge, located in Zhashui County in Shangluo City, partially collapsed around 8:40 p.m. on Friday due to a sudden downpour and flash floods, according to the provincial publicity department. Some 1,400 rescuers including armed police and fire fighters, together with more than 300 pieces of rescue equipment, were dispatched to carry out the search and rescue mission.
