Aid-Xizang program turns natural wonder into popular tourist town in SW China

03:03

If you walk into the Xiayigou Earth Forest in Zanda County of Ngari Prefecture, southwest China's Xizang Autonomous Region, you will find yourself in an exotic world. This unique tulin, or earth forest landform, has turned into Xiangzi Tourism Town, a key part of the aid-Xizang project through efforts by north China's Hebei Province to help Zanda County, with an investment totaling around 110 million yuan ($15.13 million). In 1994, at the third national symposium on work in Xizang, the central government made a major decision to rally national support for Xizang. Boosting the tourism industry has become one of the most important missions of the aid-Xizang project over the past 30 years.
