Nestled at the northern foot of the Tianshan Mountains, Zhaosu County in Yili Prefecture, the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, is a high-altitude intermontane basin embraced by mountains at an average elevation of 2,018 meters. Renowned since ancient times for its production of fine steeds, Zhaosu is the birthplace of the Ili horse, known as the "heavenly horse," and boasts the largest population of Ili horses in China.
