Eddie Howe, manager of Newcastle United, told reporters on Friday that he wants to stay with the Premier League club despite recent speculation linking him to the England manager position.

England parted ways with Gareth Southgate after finishing Euro 2024 in Germany as runners-up. The English Football Association posted a public advertisement seeking candidates for the position on their official website on Friday.

"We are currently overseeing a highly targeted process to appoint the next Head Coach of the England Men's Senior Team," the FA said and added that it "has already identified a number of candidates." The closing date for applications is August 2.

Howe was reportedly one of the candidates the FA is interested in. He has been managing English clubs since 2008, and took over Newcastle in November 2021.

The club won 60 of their 125 games under him with 60 wins, 30 draws and 35 losses. They came in fourth and seventh during the 2022-23 and 2023-24 campaigns, respectively, their two complete seasons under Howe.

"Really, there has been no thought in my mind on anything else and I have been very committed to the job here," Howe told BBC Radio. "For me, as long as I am happy and feel supported and feel free to do the work that I love to do at Newcastle, I'll be very happy – and I am very happy."

Newcastle have been seen as a rising force in the Premier League since being acquired by the Public Investment Fund of Saudi Arabia in October 2021. They haven't made any blockbuster transfers or signings, but have been pushing to build a competitive squad with solid players.
