Zheng Qinwen of China beat Diane Parry of France 7-5, 6-4 in the semifinals of the Palermo Ladies Open in Palermo, Italy, on Saturday, to reach the final at the clay-court tournament.
The first set was knotted at 4-4 after the first eight games, before Zheng secured the first break of the match in the ninth game. Parry then returned the favor to level the set again, but Zheng converted another break and claimed the frame by successfully holding on her sixth serve.
Zheng established an early lead of 3-1 in the second set and then guarded her edge with a steady performance to clinch her fourth straight victory without dropping a set at the tournament on the island of Sicily.
Zheng's opponent in the final will be Karolina Muchova of the Czech Republic. Sunday's contest will be the sixth Women's Tennis Association (WTA) Tour title match in the Chinese star's career, and her second this year after advancing to the Australian Open final in January.
Zheng has lifted two WTA Tour trophies to date, including at the Palermo Open in 2023, after defeating Jasmine Paolini of Italy 6-4, 1-6, 6-1 in the final. She has played Muchova once before and lost 1-6, 6-3, 6-4 at the Madrid Open in April 2022.
