"Greater Heat", the 12th of the 24 solar terms

CGTN

00:10

July 22 marks "Dashu," also known as "Greater Heat," the 12th of the 24 solar terms on the Chinese lunar calendar. During this period, sunshine reaches its peak and the temperature is at its highest. Frequent rainfall makes it very humid, so the heat can be difficult to bear. However, it is also a time of rapid growth for crops. Drinking cold tea and eating herb jelly are two of the customs during Greater Heat. Watch the video to see the different ways the Chinese characters "大暑" (Dashu) are written.
