CGTN

The 33rd Summer Olympic Games will be held in Paris, France, from July 26 to August 11. From the Winter Olympics to the Summer Olympics, from Beijing to Paris, China Media Group (CMG) has continuously pushed the boundaries of technological innovation to bring even greater charm to its Olympic broadcasting and reporting.

In accordance with the strategic agreement between the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and CMG, Olympic Broadcasting Services (OBS) and CMG signed a cooperation memorandum in Beijing in 2023. The two parties established a long-term cooperation mechanism for the 2024 Paris Olympic Games and future Olympic Games, conducting in-depth cooperation in event broadcasting, technology application, market development, and other aspects to promote the widespread dissemination of the Olympic spirit and culture and achieve common development.

By virtue of its outstanding broadcasting capabilities, CMG has been invited to serve as the main broadcaster of the Paris Olympics. It is the international media organization with the most broadcasting projects for the Paris Olympics. It also undertakes the dual tasks of broadcasting and producing the common signal for four major events: table tennis, badminton, sport climbing and gymnastics. In addition, it will provide 8K international common signal production for the Paris Olympic Games track and field competitions and closing ceremony. This is also the first time in the history of the Summer Olympics that 8K production technology has been used since the Beijing Winter Olympics.

IOC President Thomas Bach has repeatedly lauded CMG's excellent reporting capabilities, particularly its groundbreaking 8K production technology. CMG's expertise in applying new technologies and promoting Olympic culture globally has been instrumental to its success.

In preparation for the 2024 Paris Olympics, CMG is embracing a convergence of "ideas, art, and technology" to deliver exceptional coverage. Leveraging cutting-edge technologies like ultra-high-definition (UHD), artificial intelligence, 5G and cloud platforms, CMG has developed its own broadcasting and production systems and key equipment. This robust infrastructure will facilitate multi-channel, multi-terminal converged media dissemination, providing comprehensive and immersive coverage of the Paris Olympics.

At the forefront of CMG's technological advancements is the 8K UHD live broadcast van, independently developed and designed by CMG's National Key Laboratory of UHD Video Technology. This van boasts the most powerful functions and the most flexible system among its global counterparts, ensuring unparalleled broadcast capabilities. Additionally, 8K event programs from the 2024 Paris Olympics will be broadcast through CMG's 8K UHD channel and the "Hundred Cities, Thousand Screens" project, offering viewers an unparalleled viewing experience.
