Paris will host the 2024 Summer Olympics from July 26 to August 11. This year also marks the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and France and the China-France Year of Culture and Tourism.
China's Ambassador to France Lu Shaye said people-to-people and cultural exchanges are an important foundation and inexhaustible driving force for China-France relations.
China implemented a unilateral visa exemption policy for France on December 1, 2023.
As of April 30, 2024, China had recorded 104,000 arrivals by French nationals since the beginning of the year, up almost 295 percent compared to the same period in 2023, according to the National Immigration Administration of China (NIA). During the same period, Chinese mainland residents made 130,000 trips to France, an increase of 215 percent compared to the figure in 2023, with tourism and business being the main reasons for travel, the NIA said.
Collaboration in the academic field has also flourished, with the establishment of 69 joint programs above the undergraduate level, involving 54 Chinese and 67 French universities. As of this academic year, over 46,000 Chinese students are currently pursuing studies in France, while more than 1,500 French students are enrolled in Chinese institutions, according to the latest data from China's Ministry of Education.
