Several hundred cinemas across China will broadcast live Olympic events on the big screen from Paris, including table tennis, badminton, diving, volleyball, basketball and soccer, giving audiences unprecedented access to live coverage of the competitions.

In doing so, the TV and movie industries have also achieved cross-platform integration of copyrighted content.

The inaugural event was attended by both China Media Group (CMG) officials and film industry representatives in Beijing on Monday. Jiang Wenbo, a member of CMG's editorial board, emphasized that the introduction of the Olympics into cinemas is an important step in keeping pace with the times.

"This initiative provides a new channel for the public to watch the Paris Olympics, to appreciate the prowess of Chinese athletes on the global stage, experience the spirit of sportsmanship, and foster national pride," added Jiang.

Representing cinemas operated by the state-run China Film Group Corporation, Fu Ruoqing, the corporation's chairman, who is famed for having produced "The Wandering Earth II," believes this initiative not only represents a creative way of leveraging film technology for future Olympic competitions, but also promotes innovation and enhances the wider development of the cinema industry.

At the event, Olympic champions Ding Ning and Dong Dong also expressed their excitement to see the Olympic Games in cinemas.

The 33rd Summer Olympics will open in Paris on July 26 and run until August 11. The Chinese delegation, consisting of 716 athletes, will compete in 30 sports across 42 disciplines at the Games.
