The usage rate of green electricity in some advanced national data centers in China is around 80 percent, according to the National Data Administration at a press conference in Beijing on Monday.

In February 2022, China started work on the project to build an integrated national big data system involving the establishment of eight national computing hubs and 10 national data center clusters.

By the end of March this year, the computing power scale of those 10 clusters had exceeded 1.46 million standard racks, and the usage rate of green electricity in some advanced data centers had reached approximately 80 percent.

"We will continue with efforts to promote the integrated development of computing power and electricity by supporting non-hub data centers in the central and western regions rich in green power resources to integrate into the national computing power network construction, so as to improve the protection capability of the national integrated computing power network," said Du Wei, director of the Department of Digital Technology and Infrastructure Construction under the National Data Administration.

For the next steps, the National Data Bureau will accelerate the construction of the national integrated computing power network, advance the coordinated development of multi-source heterogeneous computing power and promote the convergence of various kinds of computing resources to the national hubs. Besides, the bureau will also guide domestic telecom operators to improve the efficiency of public transmission channels, promote collaboration between industrial data and computing power, and improve data processing and governance capabilities.
