The New Zealand men's and women's rugby sevens teams are both hoping to top the podium in Paris.

The All Blacks are seeking their first Olympic gold on the men's side, but are very aware of the threat posed by Antoine Dupont and host nation France, while the Black Ferns will be defending their women's title after finishing third in this year's Sevens Series.

"I got to say that the French team have been working towards this moment for a long time and they have been building for age," said New Zealand men's rugby sevens team member Andrew Knewstubb.

"Look at their progression from the last Olympics to now. They're almost a completely new team and they're a really tight and they're a really sharp team. With (Antoine) Dupont coming into the team, it's made them a wee bit stronger. But I felt like they were a really strong team already. So yeah, they're definitely going to be dangerous. But I reckon it's going to be awesome test for us and I can't wait," Knewstubb added.

"We know what we're capable of. We know the potential that we have and we know that it was only minor things that we needed to work on. And so for us coming back home now, it's easy to forget what you're good at," said New Zealand women's rugby sevens team member Risi Pouri-Lane.

"And so for us, it's a lot of us actually kind of reminding ourselves that we're actually good and we know how to play rugby. We know what to do. And it's just the little things that we need to get right. So come tournament time, we'll see what happens then. But we know we've done all that we can to best prepare for this weekend," she concluded.
