Aerial view of China's Badain Jaran Desert

00:46

The Badain Jaran Desert is among the four major deserts in China, situated in the western part of the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region. Its total area is roughly 49,000 square kilometers. The desert features 144 lakes, with 12 of them being freshwater. The local governments have been actively engaged in sand prevention and control. A forest belt was planted along the desert, and most sand dunes have stopped moving.
