China Media Group (CMG) released a statement on Wednesday related to its copyright protection measures for the 2024 Paris Olympic Games.

The 33rd Summer Olympic Games will take place in Paris, France, from July 26 to August 11. According to an agreement between CMG and the International Olympic Committee, CMG holds exclusive rights for all media and sub-licensing for the Games in the Chinese mainland and Macao Special Administrative Region (MSAR).

As of the date CMG released this statement, CMG has authorized Migu, a subsidiary of China Mobile Communications Corporation (CMCC-Migu), to provide coverage of the Games through live broadcasts, delayed broadcasts, video on demand, and short videos. Additionally, video platforms Douyin and Kuaishou, as well as internet company Tencent, will offer video on demand and short videos. Television broadcasts will be available on the Sports Leisure Channel of Beijing Radio and Television Station, the Five-Star Sport News Channel of Shanghai Media Group, and Guangdong TV Sports Channel (excluding new media platforms). CMG will also collaborate with China Film Group Corporation to offer live viewing services for the Paris Olympics in select theaters nationwide.

Except for the above authorized partners, no organization or individual may use the audio and video content or related broadcast signals of the Games without authorization from CMG. This includes, but is not limited to, live broadcasts, delayed broadcasts, on-demand services, carousels, editing, animated images, video downloads, theater screenings, or public place broadcasts. Unauthorized use across various platforms, including television, radio, the Internet, mobile communication networks, IPTV, Internet TV, mobile media TV and application software, as well as accounts and mini-programs on these platforms, is prohibited in the Chinese mainland and MSAR.

Additionally, it is prohibited to use CMG's programs for the Games or engage in any form of unfair competition under the guise of live broadcasts, rebroadcasts, or Olympic media cooperation. This includes, but is not limited to, covert marketing activities exploiting Olympic media rights.

CMG has launched a special copyright protection campaign and will collaborate with various parties to strengthen rights protection efforts. Effective legal measures will be taken to crack down on infringements of the 2024 Paris Olympic Games program copyright and the use of program resources for unfair competition. The legal responsibilities of relevant entities will be thoroughly investigated and enforced according to the law.
