On Wednesday afternoon, 72 poets from BRICS countries gathered at the Mutianyu section of the Great Wall in Beijing to read their original poems in their native languages, creating a rich tapestry of voices and cultures.

Before the reading, the poets toured Mutianyu, one of the most celebrated sections of the Great Wall. Walking along its ancient stones, they were deeply impressed by the wall's majestic beauty and grandeur.

The Great Wall, a testament to human ingenuity and perseverance and the shared heritage of human civilization, offered the poets a shared experience that transcended their diverse cultural backgrounds.

After visiting the Great Wall, a poet from the United Arab Emirates (UAE) reflected on the dual nature of the Great Wall, noting that while it was originally constructed to defend against invasions, it has evolved into a global symbol of tourism and a bridge for communication and friendship.

"On the magnificent Great Wall, we felt a cool breeze despite the scorching heat. I believe this is a message of friendship from China," said another poet from the UAE.

"The Great Wall and the memories of China will bloom in my mind like lotus flowers and take root deeply, much like the UAE's national tree, the Ghaf tree."

The first International Youth Poetry Festival's Special Session for BRICS countries, which takes place from July 19 to 24 in Hangzhou City, Zhejiang Province and Beijing, brought the poets together. The festival celebrates poetic expression and cultural diversity, fostering mutual understanding and collaboration among nations. In addition to the poets from BRICS countries, over 20 Chinese poets participated, contributing to a vibrant and dynamic exchange of ideas and creativity.
