No matter how the international and regional situation changes, China always firmly supports the just cause of the Palestinian people, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said on Tuesday.

Wang, who is also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, made the remarks during his meeting with Vice Chairman of the Central Committee of Fatah Mahmoud al-Aloul, before the signing of the Beijing Declaration by 14 Palestinian factions. Al-Aloul is also the head of the Fatah delegation.

Noting the Gaza conflict has caused a huge humanitarian disaster, Wang pointed out that the solution to settle the Palestinian question, this historical injustice, must uphold the principle of "Palestinian-owned, Palestinian-led and Palestinian-ruled."

It is imperative that, in the fundamental interests of the Palestinian people as a whole, all parties should seize the opportunity to seek common ground while reserving differences, to promote unity and reconciliation among all factions, the Chinese foreign minister stressed.

He also called on all Palestinian factions to form a more coherent position, and to clarify the goals of joint efforts, to create the necessary conditions for the promotion of a permanent ceasefire in Gaza, the realization of an independent state of Palestine, and the implementation of the "two-state solution."

Al-Aloul, for his part, expressed his appreciation to China for its efforts to promote intra-Palestinian reconciliation among the various factions, saying that the Palestinian side will never forget China's consistent and steadfast help over the decades.

"China is a true friend and brother of the Palestinian people, and its tireless support makes us feel that we are not alone," al-Aloul said.

He added that Fatah will do its utmost to promote internal reconciliation and unity among all factions and contribute to a thorough settlement of the Palestinian question.
