In 2015, He Kaishu, grandson of Dongyang bamboo weaving master He Fuli, returned from his studies in Germany to become an apprentice of his family’s bamboo weaving workshop. Painstakingly acquiring the most basic skills of the craft, He Kaishu, began integrating youthful and fashionable elements into the creation of woven bamboo works, all the while being sure to retain the essence of traditional bamboo weaving. His innovative approach enables more and more people to see this traditional art form with new eyes.
