Fast-moving wildfire ravages resort town of Jasper in Canadian Rockies

00:41

A fast-moving wildfire in the Canadian Rockies, that prompted 25,000 people to flee, roared into the town of Jasper overnight with flames as high as treetops, devastating up to half of its structures, officials said on Thursday. Jasper and the neighboring Jasper National Park, famous for postcard-perfect mountain views, were menaced by fires from both the north and south. Alberta Forestry and Parks Minister Todd Loewen said many of the fires were caused by lightning. About 176 wildfires were burning across the province, including 54 which were burning out of control.
