The equestrian events at the 2024 Paris Summer Olympics will be held at the Palace of Versailles and two Chinese riders, Alex Hua Tian and Sun Huadong, have arrived at the stables at the historic site.
Hua Tian and his horse Chocs reached the stables early on Thursday morning. This is the 15-year-old horse's first Olympic appearance and following a health check by the Organizing Committee, he was certified as being in good condition, both physically and mentally.
Paris 2024 marks the London-born Hua Tian's fourth time representing China at the Games.
The 34-year-old Hua Tian revealed that his journey was more difficult than in the past, due to the United Kingdom no longer being a member of the European Union.
"It's a little bit complicated to travel from the UK to France including paperwork, health requirements and customs over Britain's exit from the EU," said Hua Tian.
The 33-year-old Sun arrived at the Versailles stable from the Netherlands, and is gearing up for his second appearance at the Olympics. He said he is excited to compete with his horse, Lady.
"I competed with my horse Lady since 2018, preparing for the Tokyo Summer Olympics. She was only 11 years during the Tokyo Games, and now she is 14 years-old, which is a really good age," said Sun.
